The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management celebrated its 35th anniversary on November 13, 2024 in Warsaw.
The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has supported key environmental and sustainable development initiatives for decades. The event brought together experts, government representatives, and associations of cities, counties and villages to discuss their role in achieving Poland’s energy transition goals and future climate challenges.
As Tomasz Mirowski, Ph.D. an expert for the Ignacy Lukasiewicz Institute for Energy Policy, who participated in the event, emphasizes, the anniversary is not only an opportunity for reflections but, above all, a starting point for ambitious projects that will address the need for decarbonization and the development of a green economy.
A key element of the conference was the presentation of the new strategy, which includes both support for renewable energy and the implementation of advanced low-carbon technologies in industry. Experts in the discussion panel pointed out that the The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management’s plans include not only support for large enterprises, but also for smaller projects and local investments that are important for the development of the regional economy and improvement of air quality. They also mentioned the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors in financing pro-environmental projects, which can provide a stable source of support for long-term projects, as there will not be money from public funds for all projects.
Another important highlight of the conference was a discussion panel on a low-carbon future, where specialists from various fields discussed the challenges of implementing climate policy, particularly in the heating sector. Issues raised included energy efficiency and the growing role of the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) sector, whose development is necessary to meet global climate challenges. As its activities demonstrate, the Fund is taking steps to effectively support low-carbon projects in district heating and individual heating, as well as technological innovations to accelerate the transformation of the energy sector.
