Decarbonization is defined as the process of reducing and ultimately eliminating CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere. This involves limiting the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which are the primary sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

Decarbonization affects multiple sectors of the economy, with the most significant being industry, energy, transport, and construction.

According to the “Fit for 55” package adopted by the European Union as part of the European Green Deal, the goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels). These measures are intended to combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This requires new regulations and updates to climate policies.

A key issue in this transition is the decarbonization of heating systems, particularly district heating network
